Nokia 6: The Beast Comes Back

The Nokia 6 is expected to release on April 5th, 2017. Nokia has stepped up its game by introducing Android OS on its hardware. Nokia 6 will arrive with Android 7 (Nougat) at its core, and it will be a first Nokia device running on Android OS by Google. This device will be a dual SIM device with 4G LTE network support inclusive of 4G network bands. Moreover, the device will also perform on 3G and 2G networks. It will be a first official Nokia device with a fingerprint sensor. There is no confirmed news whether the device will be VoLTE enabled, hence one needs to wait for the launching and official information from the company. However, the market experts expect it to be armoured with VoLTE only considering the latest trend in the smartphone market.

Design and Display

The dimensions of the Nokia 6 are 154 (H) x 75.8 (W) x 7.8(T) mm. Build material of casing and rear is Aluminium based. There will be only one color variant available for this device which is dark black. Nokia 6 will sport a 5.5-inch giant display with full HD resolution (i.e. 1920 x 1080). The pixel density of this device’s display is 441 pixels per inch (PPI). The display is IPS LCD type, and it is protected by Corning’s Gorilla Glass 3. The device performs on capacitive touch and also supports multi-touch up to 10 points. The screen to body ratio of this device is 71.27% which is at par with the other smartphones in this segment.

Performance and Storage

The performance of this device can be rated very good as compared to other devices in the same price segment. The device performs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 430 MSM8937 processor. It consists of octa-core Cortex A53 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. This processor has 64-bit architecture and can handle data faster. The graphics performance of this device is handled capably by Adreno 505 GPU. The device has 4GB RAM for faster multi-tasking and lag-free performance. Nokia 6 has 64GB onboard storage, and it can be expanded up to 128GB. The device supports USB-OTG for transferring data directly to flash devices from a Smartphone.

Camera and Battery

This Smartphone has two cameras, one on the front and one on the rear. The primary camera or the rear camera has a 16MP resolution. Rear cam is enabled with PDAF and has an aperture of 2.0F.  A dual LED flash is provided on the rear side to capture bright images in low-light conditions. Images are captured in resolution 4616 x 3464 pixels. There is no manual photography mode provided, but the user can definitely control exposure compensation and ISO control. Like other Smartphone cameras, this Smartphone can also capture images in 2 modes, continuous shooting mode and High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode. In the HDR mode flashlight is disabled, but the images captured even in low-light condition are sharp and crisp. Other camera features include digital zoom, face detection, auto flash and touch to focus. Videos can be recorded by the rear camera in full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. The front camera on this device is an 8MP shooter with 2.0F aperture.

Unfortunately, the company hasn’t provided any front flash. The device is powered by 3000mAh Li-polymer type battery, and it cannot be removed from the device. This much battery can last 1 day or more at moderate usage and 12-15 hours on high usage.


The Nokia 6 supports all the network bands like 4G, 3G, and 2G. This device does support 4G bands, but there is no confirmed news about whether the device is VoLTE. This is a dual SIM device and supports only GSM-type SIM. The SIM slot 1 supports all the three above mentioned networks, whereas SIM slot 2 only supports 2G network. This device is Wi-Fi enabled with standards 802.11, b/g/n, the device can share the data connectivity by working as a portable hotspot.

For the security of data sharing, there are security features included like WPA-PSK and WPA2-PSK. Bluetooth v4.1 is provided for file sharing using Bluetooth and latest version transfers files at faster rates. For navigation and mapping purpose one can enable the pre-installed GPS and navigate efficiently. It doesn’t support NFC though. For sharing data with desktops/laptops, and charging purposes a MicroUSB v2. 0 port is provided.

This device also has a 3.5mm headphone jack for music lovers. A fingerprint sensor is mounted on the front side, ensuring better security. Sensors like light, proximity, accelerometer, gyroscope, and compass are also provided.


Nokia 6 expected price is 16k-17k.
